References and Recommendations

To Whom it May Concern,

I highly recommend Katie Woodcock as a candidate for employment. Katie came to This Morning at ITV Daytime for one week of work experience from Monday 3rd-Friday 7th February 2020. Katie worked closely with each and every department at This Morning, and demonstrated responsibility, reliability and had a can-do approach to all tasks given.

Katie was always willing to help out our runners at busy times, as well as conducting impressive amounts of research. In addition, she was organised, always punctual and a pleasure to have working with us. Katie showed she could work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job at hand was completed. We received great feedback from the different teams at This Morning, especially from our News Team.

Katie has my highest recommendation and I wish her luck in future. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

India Ankerson

"Katie spent some time in the Newsroom at ITV Anglia in Norwich in January 2020 and everyone agreed that she was a delight to have here.

She was an absolute joy to be around. She's clever, articulate, passionate, well-informed about current affairs and also warm and friendly.  She needed no baby sitting and was more than confident (but not in a cocky way) at approaching people to shadow.

If she were my daughter I'd be mighty proud. I am confident she would be an asset to any organisation as she has a lot to give and would put her heart and soul into whatever she was doing.

She's very mature and I just know that whatever she chooses to do in life she'll be triumphant.

Caroline Baron - ITV Anglia."

“I can confirm that Katie Woodcock spent a week on a work placement with ITV News Meridian in July 2019. During that time, Katie shadowed a number of roles around the newsroom.

She observed the roles of News Editor, producer, forward planner, director, reporter, camera operator and the online team. Katie helped with research for stories, assisted with planning the news diary and also did "vox pops" with the public on what they thought of the Conservative Party leadership race. These interviews were used in our programme.

Katie was well presented, polite and took a keen interest in how the newsgathering operation comes together on our regional news programme.

"Katie joined our team to work on the ABP Southampton Marathon event with 10,000 runners on Sun 5th May 2019. Katie integrated with the team seamlessly and was very professional and organised in her role in charge of the Media Room at the event. Her duties included ensuring all media personnel were in the correct place, managing our rigid and tight timetable for the event weekend; interacting with the film crews; assisting interviewers and looking after interviewees. Katie also ensured that our live awards presentation on the stage flowed smoothly by lining up the winning participants and getting them on stage on time along with their awards. As well as all of this, in the pre and post event activities Katie played a vital part in helping to set up the event ready for the runners, sponsors, charities and spectators arriving; and it was fantastic to have her help in the break down post event too. Overall, Katie had great communication and organisation skills and was a proactive addition to our team - we would invite her back any time

Kind Regards,

Nikki Rees

“Dear Solent,

I can confirm that Katie Woodcock has completed work experience with Radio Sonar from September 2018 to May 2019.

Katie's attitude has been second to none, and she has demonstrated natural ability within a number of areas of radio and broadcasting. Her confidence with speaking on-air, combined with the work she has put in to grow her show's brand on social media, has paid dividends for all parties.

I would absolutely recommend her to any employer.

Kind regards,

Ben Winter

“Katie was tasked with generating questions for the magazine’s main Q&A section, using social media, books and online resources to gain an insight into our readers’ lives and their photographic needs. Several of these questions were used in the magazine, helping to generate some exciting editorial content.

Katie was also tasked with rewriting an interview Q&A into running copy, with the focus being on writing a variety of impactful intros and ordering the original Q&A running order into a more exciting narrative. Katie used a number of intro styles – quotes, descriptions, drop intros etc – to explore the challenge and present a number of options.

I was really impressed with Katie’s enthusiasm, application and maturity – she worked hard, researched thoroughly and showed great communication skills.

Best wishes,

"Katie has been a real asset in the Garden News office this week. At the start of the week I gave her three press releases with potential stories and asked her to make an assessment of their worth, and what sort of treatment they could get. She had free rein to either a) dismiss them completely, b) simply rewrite them or c) research further to flesh them out where necessary and write longer pieces. She chose c) for all of them, despite not having any specialist knowledge of the market. Katie found the angles and structured her pieces very nicely – also spelling and punctuation were very good (not something I always get to say about journalism students, sadly!).

At the same time, I asked Katie to run the rule over the Garden News website, which is in need of a refresh. All thoughts are welcome at this stage and Katie put together a 1,500-word document with some really good, well thought-out points – again, with no specialist gardening knowledge, or real knowledge of our readers, that’s not an easy thing to do and required a lot of effort.

All in all, I’ve been very impressed by Katie’s work ethic and demeanour this week.

Many thanks

“Katie has just completed her 1-week work placement here in the Media department at Neale-Wade Academy. Katie was absolutely fantastic.

She got involved with our radio studio, produced videos for our website, took part in general classroom practice, was an essential part of presentations and did some editing for us. Her professionalism was outstanding.

Having worked in Television for 20 years and seen many a work experience placement come and go, she was a definite highlight and certainly a person I would like to work with again.

She was always punctual and very patient. Her feedback to the class was invaluable and for the students a lot of them commented that having someone who had been through the sixth form and university was excellent. She was also very quick to offer help and advice and was not afraid to speak her mind.

She also engaged in a technical reshuffle of our radio studio and she really helped us set it up properly. She stated that she worked in her own radio programme at her university and was teaching our students how to be more confident in a studio. At one-point Katie and one of our sixth formers engaged in a 30minute long podcast which was amazing to see.

I think Katie got an awful lot out of it and her communication skills and confidence are, for someone her age, enviable.

She certainly showed our students what professionalism looks like and she spoke very highly of yourself and the University. I would welcome other candidates in the future.”
