News Day Deputy Editor

On the first news day of third year, I accompanied the editor, Hannah. We had previously worked in this role together last year, so it was great to be given another chance, add to our skills and put them into action.
We were given time to prepare as we were emailed about it during the summer. As we had prior knowledge within editorial roles, we were both very organised and relaxed when it came to the planning element of the day.
By taking part in this role, it meant that when it came to myself being the editor, I knew exactly how to prepare and react to what arises on the day. This made me excited for my own go as I knew I'd feel comfortable.

To make sure the day ran smoothly, myself and Hannah contributed to a shared online plan which we could both add to during the run up to the news day. I found this very beneficial, especially when it came to my own news day the following week as it enabled me to arrive on the day very prepared and organised.
This plan meant that when it came to the morning meeting with our lecturers, we could clearly lay our ideas out on the table, showing background research and preparation.
The day went really well and ran smoothly. For the first news day of the year, we were both very impressed with how it ran.
