During the summer after finishing second year of university, I went on a week’s placement at ITV’s Meridian Studios in Whiteley. This was an amazing opportunity as ITV has always been somewhere I'd love to work. Having the opportunity to attend there and experience what it's like in a proper newsroom environment was an opportunity that I couldn't miss.

During my time there, I attended morning meetings, worked on the news desk phoning companies for interviews/statistics, helped on social media by writing posts and news articles/features for their webpage, went out filming with the production crew on stories which would be aired on the 6pm show, shadowed the TV producers to see how they produced the shows (this taught me how they use their version of INews and Newscutter compared to what I use on my course at university), watched the bulletins air out live from the gallery and the studio, and met the programmes presenters.

I learnt a lot from my time there. All the skills I’ve now gained especially in TV production, interviewing and editing has allowed me to grow in confidence as a journalist.
