Radio Team

I had not been part of the radio team that much during third year, so it was great to have the opportunity. Teamed up with third year, Hannah and second year, Lauren, we equally produced one bulletin each.

I was given the 1pm bulletin, so had enough time in the morning to get all the material I needed such as voiced packages, phone interviews and guest studio chats. Whilst doing this, I also helped out the rest of the team, making sure they were on track to have what they wanted in their bulletin provided.

To make sure I was prepared for the day, I took note of some of the key stories in my notebook during the morning meeting. This really helped me when it came to planning the running order of my bulletin, as well as keeping track on other elements for the day.

I produced my bulletin well in advance of my air time, 1pm. This enabled me to have enough practice time, allowing me to give a comfortable delivery when live.

To make sure that all 3 of us on the team knew who was producing what content for each bulletin, we set up a table on the whiteboard. This also meant anyone else in the newsroom could see the content we were expecting.

One of the most rewarding parts of my day was when I helped both Hannah and Lauren produce their bulletins live on air. I helped move the mic slots up and down, as well as cuing the external recorded audio elements.

I'd never completed this role before, so it was great to get the experience whilst still being a student at university.

The whole day ran very smoothly, with no stress. This was because all three of us were well organised, and knew exactly what we wanted to gain from our day on radio.
