Production Journalist Roles
Coronavirus affecting footballing story - 5th March 2020

This job was one of the most memorable days as a journalist purely because of the awful weather that we were faced with when filming! However, I know this is what I'll be facing when in the industry, so it was a great day of experience.
I worked with two second years which really enabled me to use my skills as a journalist to make the most of the day and the story, as well as passing down valuable skills I've learnt to them.
My tasks for the day were to make a voiced television package surrounding the coronavirus but making it Hampshire based, as well as linking to the fact that the FA had banned handshaking and signing autographs in their upcoming games because of the coronavirus risks.
We used past footage from one of the second years assignments and filmed a couple more clips, as well as taking a trip down to St Mary's Stadium to produce a piece to camera. The organisation I gave myself and the group made sure that we were able to edit and produce everything in time for the lunchtime bulletin.
During the second half of the day, we were given the task to help film at an event taking place in the Spark building of our university in aid of university mental health day. This gave me another chance to get some filming done for my showreel.

the second part of the day where
myself and my team helped out with university mental health day.

I made sure we sent photos to the social media team to upload so our followers could be updated on our activity.
Valentines day story - 13th February 2020

During the week of valentines day, of course there was a fun story lined up by the editors. I was placed on this with second year, Connor. We were asked to make a fun social short which would be used on our Solent Journalism Twitter page and also attended a 'Love Solent' day which we filmed footage at for the television bulletin. To make the social short, we used older packaged footage and made in into our own.
Myself and Connor made sure to keep ourselves busy throughout the day, and really enjoyed the fun elements, as well as the reporting to this story as it gave us an insight into what it would be like to be on stories like this in the real world. The help of Connor was really beneficial. We both worked really hard together which is key to why we produced such good on the day content.

We made a Twitter poll on our page so we could interact with our audiences.
We took part in the 'Love Solent' activities and took an interactive photo which we could share around (we even ended up on the big screen!!)

Producing two-ways for radio bulletins

During some of the news days, I was asked to conduct radio two-ways/packages for the audio bulletins. Radio is a part of journalism that I really enjoy, so I did not mind doing the extra work.
I would usually be asked to do this during the middle of the day, so there was sometimes a quick turnaround, but I made sure that I had enough time to produce a well-timed piece.
